Listen, I get it it's hard not to fixate on these things that you may have come to hate but the reason I am here is to help you learn to accept and feel comfortable with these things, to help you no longer see them as flaws that hinder your beauty. I won't edit your skin to look like plastic or make your eyes look like glass, because that's not what you really look like. I want you to look in the mirror every day and see the same woman in your photos. I was terrified I would see the pictures and feel like they weren't enough. The way I feel seeing pictures taken on normal days where I don't post because they aren't "cute". After my session I was on a next level feeling myself. The way I carried myself and the way I started talking to myself started to change. Learning to love yourself is a commitment..⁠ ⁠ I'll be honest, one boudoir shoot isn't an end all, fix all solution. ⁠ ⁠ Your boudoir experience is a seed. A seed that you need to continue to nurture. ⁠ ⁠ If you leave your experience and allow yourself to slip back into the same non existent self love habits, then you won't see a change. ⁠ ⁠ You need to continue to take time for you, you need to continue to do the hard things that you KNOW are good for you. You need to continue to keep yourself front of mind. ⁠ ⁠ But it doesn't stop there. Self love and body confidence isn't always bubble baths and face masks. ⁠ It's leaping out of your comfort zone and experiencing mad amounts of confidence from doing so.⁠ ⁠ Self love is different from person to person. ⁠ Maybe it's investing in therapy, maybe it's making a boudoir shoot a yearly thing, maybe it's taking the time to get your nails done, maybe it's hiring a babysitter for the kids one night a week or every other week. Maybe it's taking 10 minutes every morning or night to journal. Maybe it's booking that doctors appointment you've been putting off. Maybe it's committing to moving your body everyday. ⁠ ⁠ No matter what self love is to you and how you practice it- your boudoir shoot is the first step in your journey. You get to taste what it's like to put yourself first, to invest in yourself and how amazing that makes you feel.⁠ It makes you crave that feeling, and therefore inspires self love in all areas of life. ⁠

Let's talk products & why I think adding them to your experience makes it THAT much more impactful.. ⬇⁠ ⁠ First of all, I'm going to sound like a broken record here but seeing your photos PRINTED hits different. Especially when they're luxury, hand crafted, made to last products- these aren't what you're going to find at walmart or shutterfly. ⁠ ⁠ Second, how often do you look at photos from 2-3 years ago on your computer or phone. 10 years ago? I'm willing to guess the answer to that is not very often. I like to give this reminder every few months because I often find myself giving it to myself... You don't have to have all your shit together 100% of the time. ⁠ ⁠ It's tough to juggle all the things we're "supposed" to on a daily basis.. and I'm just talking the BASICCCSSS... Feeding yourself, moving your body, hygiene, keeping the house clean, laundry, grocery shopping, getting to bed at a decent time, taking care of pets/kids etc etc⁠ ⁠ I don't know about you but just that list above feels really fucking overwhelming for me a lot of the time and I'm often feeling like if I'm crushing it in one area, another is suffering. Whether that be the cleanliness of the house, neglecting doing my laundry for weeks, forgetting to eat for most of the day, RESTING!!!! (cause we all know that's just as important as work.) ⁠ ⁠ But when I find myself spiralling into thoughts like "omfg how to normal people have their shit together all the time, get this seemingly basic list of tasks done AND have kids, plus sports, plus a social life, plus see their family" I try to be kind to myself. I remind myself that there's ebbs and flows to everything in life. There's seasons for intense work and seasons for intense rest. There's seasons where the house might be a little messier than usually or you eat out a few more times then you'd like to. ⁠ ⁠ AND THAT'S OKAY. (Also most people don't have 100% of their shit together 100% of the time so🤪)⁠ ⁠ The important thing that I always come back to is making sure I'm trying my best at prioritizing what creates a solid mental foundation for myself and try my best to make those non negotiable. Making it to the gym to get my energy out, eating 3 meals a day, and trying to tidy something in the house even if it's as simple as picking up all of Nala & Millie's toys. Because for me those 3 things generally ease the already existing anxiety I live with, where as skipping them adds to it. ⁠ ⁠ So if you've been feeling like you've been less than killing it lately, remind yourself that you're worthy of grace from yourself. 🖤

Waking up every morning getting dressed and never feeling drop dead gorgeous, looking at your body in the mirror and hating what you see, covering up in public because you're worried about what others think, hating the stretch marks on your body & doing everything you can to hide them, thinking you're broken because of complications it gives you, believing that your scars define you. Missing out on beach days because you just can't get over the discomfort of being in a bathing suit. Constantly focusing on the size the tag says. Using workouts to punish yourself for eating yummy foods with instead of working out for strength + health. Struggling with body image issues that were passed down by your mom and never being able to get those nasty comments she said to you as a kid out of your head.⁠ ⁠ Any of that sound familiar? ⁠ ⁠ Well girlfriend, I'm here to kick start your self acceptance, body neutrality, healing journey. ⁠ ⁠ It won't be easy, and I can't magically make any of those things I listed above go away. ⁠ But what I can do is open up my safe, inclusive, empowering space to you & help you see a perspective of yourself that you've failed to notice maybe your whole life. The reason I refuse to edit out cellulite & stretch marks 👇🏼⁠ ⁠ Honestly, this is a topic that comes up a lot with Boudoir. Every photographer out there has a different policy regarding it but I like to be SUPER clear about the fact that I will NOT remove stretch marks or cellulite.⁠ ⁠ And the reason why is a lot more simple than you think.⁠ ⁠ When you see a photo online that's VERY clearly manipulated (Plastic looking skin, Glass looking eyes.) you know that's not REAL. Photo manipulations popularity is honestly scary. It's perpetuating these false standards, it's damaging minds, mental health & causing dis-trust.⁠ ⁠ I want you to look at your photos & feel on top of the world knowing that's EXACTLY what you look like. Your photos are a complete representation of you. No fancy waist trimming, arm slimming, scar removing!⁠ ⁠ I know you might be thinking uhhhh Jess, I'm gunna look at my photos and hate them because my cellulite is my biggest insecurity..... Well, let me paint you a picture. ⁠ ⁠ Say I agree to edit your skin to look like glass, remove every single mark, scar, stretch mark, wrinkle, sun spot. You get your photos back and then you find yourself comparing the woman you see in the mirror to the one in the photos. ⁠ Those photos aren't you, you're not that person. HOW SHITTY WOULD THAT FEEL. TO LOOK AT THOSE PHOTOS KNOWING THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE??!?!?!?!? Sure, it might be a temporary boost of confidence to have these plastic barbie looking photos, but on a bad body day those photos won't help you. What will help you, is looking back at your gallery that you KNOW is all you. A gallery that proves to you that you are beautiful despite these insecurities.⁠ ⁠ I know it's scary to be told that one of your biggest insecurities will be left in a photo. A huge part of finding my confidence in myself & in my body was getting in front of the camera...⁠ Way back before I started Bare Soul Boudoir, I HATED getting in front of the camera. I was shooting families, couples, branding etc at the time and always told people I belong behind the camera not in front of it. (Pretty sure every photographer is guilty of this exact line.) I never ever took photos of myself, EVER.⁠ ⁠ But once I started shooting boudoir I knew I needed to put myself in my clients shoes, get out of my comfort zone. Now (as you know heheh) I'm in front of the camera A LOT. Clothed, naked, half naked- I love it all.
